Statement
This project involves a restaurant-bar located in the seaside resort of Bahía Inglesa, in the municipality of Caldera. A key requirement is the inclusion of a residence for potential tenants or operators of the establishment. The project acknowledges specific constraints but, rather than viewing them as disadvantages, transforms them into an opportunity to create a unique and distinctive atmosphere within the area.
These constraints are, firstly, that the plot is not situated directly facing the sea; and secondly, that the site is adjacent to existing, large-scale buildings, which initially complicates the visual angles and sightlines from within the property.
Consequently, the project establishes a spatial and architectural intent to create an atmosphere of inward looking relationships a space that gradually reveals itself, offering a series of interior spatial experiences independent of the immediate coastal edge.
To achieve this, we developed a volumetric design that imbues the structural elements with spatial and operational versatility. Acting as boundaries, these elements arranged in concentric rings allow for permeability and light filtering while shaping the program’s distinct, sequential stages, thereby creating nested, contained spaces that relate to one another in a progressive sequence.
